Michael (Mick) Purcell is the Head of School at RAKS Pallikkoodam School of Excellence in Coimbatore. Mick comes from the United States where he received his degrees in engineering and physics. He has been a mathematics teacher for more than 25 years but he has also taught physics, general science, history, theory of knowledge, computer science, design, and technical writing. He also coached basketball and football (soccer) for many years in high schools and at University.

Mick serves many roles for the International Baccalaureate Organization and is an innovator and thought leader in international education. He is an expert in starting up international schools, and he has developed programs in web literacy, open source technology, digital citizenship, academic honesty, and health & safety. Mick first came to India in 2000 as the Head of Mathematics and Outdoor Sports at Mahindra United World College in Pune. He has worked at NIST in Thailand and at several schools and universities in Texas, and he was the head of school at KC High in Chennai from 2017 to 2024. He also serves on the Governing Board of Edubridge International School in Mumbai, where he was the founding Head of School. He loves to hike and climb mountains, read books, and spend time with his wife and three children.
